Building a Culture of Blood Donation

They say teamwork brings better results, and at Bloode, we wholeheartedly believe in the power of collaboration. By joining forces, we can work towards embedding voluntary blood donation into Greek culture. That’s why, with a shared vision of social contribution, we began our partnership with AB Vassilopoulos in November 2022. Together, we aim to secure life-saving blood units for those in need across Greece.  

Our First Steps 

In our first year, we committed to organizing seven blood donation events and establishing a blood bank for AB Vassilopoulos employees. The journey began in February 2023 with our inaugural event at the company’s facilities in Gerakas, in partnership with Agios Savvas Cancer Hospital. Leading up to the event, we ensured employees were fully informed about the donation process, alleviating any fears and fostering confidence. The response was incredible from the very first event!  

Following this success, we organized a second drive in May 2023 at AB Vassilopoulos’ facilities in Mandra. Encouraged by the enthusiastic participation and positive feedback, we extended our efforts by hosting four public donation drives in central locations in Athens and Thessaloniki. Our goal was clear: make blood donation more accessible by increasing donation points and offering flexible hours. By November 2023, we returned to Gerakas for another annual event, supported by both AB employees and the public.  

By the end of the year, we had collected countless blood units, supported three major public hospitals (Agios Savvas Cancer Hospital and Alexandra Hospital in Athens, and Theageneio Cancer Hospital in Thessaloniki), and helped numerous patients in urgent need. The blood bank we created even provided timely assistance to employees and their families.  

Expanding Our Reach

Motivated by the results of our first year, we planned seven more blood drives for 2024. We continued our annual events in Mandra and Gerakas, both of which received growing support from AB employees. Additionally, we expanded to new locations like Oinofyta and Rentis, collaborating with the General Hospital of Livadeia and Agios Savvas Cancer Hospital. The initiative drew dozens of new donors, reinforcing the idea that donating blood is one of the most precious gifts anyone can give.  

In September 2024, we organized open blood donation weeks for AB employees and their families at the University General Hospital of Heraklion in Crete and Agios Andreas General Hospital in Patras. In November, we’ll return to Gerakas to continue this vital work. Each donation drive has brought us closer to more people, fostering solidarity and empowering individuals to make a life-saving difference.  

 

Looking Ahead

Our collaboration with AB Vassilopoulos began with a strong commitment and continues to grow with every event. Through our joint efforts, we’ve made blood donation more accessible and introduced this life-saving act to even more people. But we’re not stopping here. Our efforts will continue into 2025 and beyond, bringing hope and support to those who need it most.
